Camps & School Holiday Program
Richmond Fellowship
Victoria 2005
In 2005 12 young people
and 5 workers from the Richmond Fellowship (RFV) Northern Region Youth
Services decided to go on a journey driving from Melbourne to Alice Springs
via Cooper Peedy, Uluru and many a bush spots. The RFV offers a range of
residential rehabilitation programs for homeless young people who experience
trauma, drug and alcohol issues and/or mental health issues.
This was a pilot program
for the RFV. It was the first time they had tackled such an exciting
journey. For 12 days the group journeyed through Victoria, South Australia
and the Northern Territory learning about the outback, mining and its
cultures, underground camping (a disaster), Indigenous Australia, about
each other and about ourselves. The group learnt also about flora and
fauna, bush tucker and stories of the land as well as about space.
Furthermore all involved grew, had epiphanies, over came fears and
challenges and had a ball. Thank you to all involved in the camp.
