Carlton kids
The Trust contributed to
the children of the Carlton Flats in response to submissions made by the
amazing Ernie Sims, resident youth worker. Ernie's request was for funds to
enable the young people he works with to have a summer holiday with their
families and leave the city for at least a couple of days.
The Trust provided funds
to help run a family summer camp in January 1999 and in March 1999, the
Trust donated money to cover the costs of sending four children on their
school camp. The children had lost their father the previous year, and then
more recently their mother had also died - both from heroin overdoses. In
the summer of 2001, the Trust funded another family camp to Doxa camp near
Kyneton, again organised by Ernie.
The Trust has enjoyed
Ernie's regular correspondence and hopes to be able to continue to support
him and the young people he provides opportunities for in the future.
