Spanner
in the Works - The Anna Wearne Memorial Award
About the Award
The 'Spanner in the Works' award recognised the community contribution,
initiative and commitment that Monash University students had made in their
unselfish quest to benefit another person or community.

What is 'Spanner in
the Works"?
The Trust thinks of a 'spanner in the works' as a good and useful thing.
Sometimes the world needs a spanner to be thrown in the works, especially
when the 'works' aren't perfect. The Trust sees a 'spanner in the works' as
someone who has seen a cog in the system that needs adjusting. Someone that
sought to alter something that they believed needed changing, or filled in
a gap they could see was empty. This person wanted to make a positive change
or create opportunities for others, and got to work in order to try and
achieve that end result. While the Spanner in the Works award finished in
2002, the Trust has incorporated its ethos into our everyday grant making
activities.
